2 States: The Story of My Marriage by Chetan Bhagat
2.0
This book started out so strong, I am extremely disappointed with how cliche and dismissive the characters and plot became in the second half of the novel - particularly the last quarter. The beginning was sweet and the banter between Ananya and Krish was quirky and funny but as I mentioned in my updates, no playful romance could make up for the way Chetan Bhagat turned Krish's physically, mentally, emotionally, verbally, abusive father into the savior of his marriage in the end. Really? You trust someone who beat/beats your mother AND YOU when they say that they'll love your girlfriend like a daughter? We know that he abuses his wife and his son and all of his wife's relatives so what exactly are the perks of being treated like a daughter in that household?? at least the mom was always honest about her prejudices and opinions. anyway, this book gets two stars because it was cute and relatable in the beginning but the ending ruined it completely for me. i will never pick up a chetan bhagat novel again, no matter how much money the bollywood film adaptation makes.
