Scarlet Stone
by Jewel E. Ann
*** 3.5/4 stars***
I really do not know how to review this book. Some parts I really enjoyed, some I didn't, some were damn right strange and others were shocking. So for the purpose of this review I will form a what I like/what I didn't like list.
What I liked:
- I liked the mystery within a mystery aspect, about the 40% mark we find out why Scarlett has truly come back to Savannah and the curious case of Neille Moore. I honestly didn't see that twist coming. Crazy Neille was not in fact crazy, but was putting on an act. She killed her best friend because she was having an affair with her husband. Theo was this vengeful beast because his mother was murdered and his father committed suicide. The connection, the best friend that was killed was Theo's mum.
- I liked the quirkiness of Scarlett Stone/Ruby's character. I actually like how each chapter started with "My name is Scarlett stone and..." and she was into knowing all these random facts.
- I liked her dad, Oscar.
- I generally did like the concept of the book, all the hidden messages, I'm just not sure whether I liked the execution of it.
- I also liked all the messages about life in this book as well (see highlights).

What I didn't like:
- First impressions of Theo How are you banning your new roommate (Scarlet) from getting food from the shared kitchen's fridge and then when she takes a bite on an apple, you proceed to rough her up and put your dirty fingers in her mouth to retrieve the bitten part of the apple. I don't care who you are, I WILL FIGHT YOU!
- Theo and Scarlett's relationship Just too much was going on in here, it went from hot to cold and I was having a serious case of whiplash.
- Lack of character development Theo did not get better, he became increasingly unstable to the point I thought his character was irredeemable. Like it was verging on dark romance shit, not the traditional enemies-to-lovers story I was expecting.
- The reunion So after Scarlet decides to not tell Theo the truth about his mum's murder, he obviously finds out (it takes less than a day) and leaves. And then a couple of months later he pops up randomly, seemingly a better, less traumatised person and she accepts him with open arms. HOW IS THAT SHIT BELIEVABLE?!!
