The beginning was absolutely stellar. There was a part, just at the beginning of part 2 where more pov's were introduced, where the book lagged a little for me. This was mostly because it was a huge expansion of the world, and it took some time to adjust. After that though, the book got steadily better until the end, which I really love. It feels a little bit almost like a prequel book. It's in a space where it's clear there's more story to tell, but it also could stay here as a standalone. But I also could see a story starting from this point, and reading this later as an origin. (Which is very similar to how I felt about Grace of Kings, so it's probably a great sign.) Highly recommend.
