The Medici Manuscript by C.J. Archer
4.0

I’m probably not int he best state to write a fair review right now, but it’s unlikely I will take the time to do it later, so here’s a short recap:

Sylvi and the professor discovers an old manuscript in the Glass Library’s forgotten nooks.

Soon, Sylvia’s friend (and not-so-secret-crush), Gabriel Glass gets involved in trying to figure out the nature and origin of this manuscript.

As the chase progresses, it becomes more and more clear that the manuscript might not at all turn out be helpful in discovering Sylvia’s lineage (and potentially magical ancestry), but for Sylvia, the thrill is in the chase.

Not to mention, it allows her to spend more time with Gabe.

When the manuscript is then stolen, Sylvia and Gabe’s merry circus of gentry misfits band together in trying to catch the culprit, and retrieve the manuscript.

More complications ensue, when Gabe is attempted kidnapped yet again, and his engagement to miss Ivy take a new turn.

Even if I find the narrative a little tedious at times, it fits with the genre and the time period.

What absorbed me the most however, is the character gallery: A more colorful, wholesome, messed up bunch of people, I haven’t encontered in a long time.

They are what drives the story, and what makes the reading experience worthwhile.
