A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas
4.0

I’m so upset with myself. I’ve been wanting to read this book for the longest because of all the attention it’s getting and I’ve also been neglecting it for so long because of all the attention it’s getting. But nevertheless, I succumbed as I always do and started reading the sample which seemed very familiar. That’s when I realized I already read this book smdh. I’m guessing I read it years ago before I started hearing the title thrown around so much and never connected it to this story. Since I didn’t actually remember most of the plot I ended up rereading this. Started off slow and didn’t guess where it was going to end up but now that I’m more familiar with Sarah J. Maas’ work after reading the Throne of Glass series and Crescent City, I can see that there are definitely some recurring themes in her books. Still pissed I didn’t realize I had already read a book I was looking forward to for so long but at the very least I’m glad I’m getting a refresher before getting into Nesta’s story.

As for my thoughts on the plot: sucks to say but I didn’t fully warm up to Tamlin, the shift in their relationship to a romantic one felt weird and a little forced. I didn’t sense a gradual emotional change before they were suddenly proclaiming their interest. The redeeming part of this book was the ending with Rhysand as he seems like a much more complex character than Tamlin and I’m interested in seeing what happens next with him though the ending makes it pretty obvious. If there’s one thing Sarah J. Maas is gonna do, it’s always making the ships unstable right as I’m finally ready to let it sail.
