Lady Tan's Circle of Women
by Lisa See
This is the second book I've read by Lisa See, the first being Peony in Love, which this one does share similarities with (particularly in the beginning and stage-setting), but is a very different exploration of Chinese culture and history, with a very different story. I feel like I appreciated this book a lot more after reading about See's research efforts, and how she wanted to craft a story based on Lady Tan's published treatments for women. I enjoyed the themes of female friendship throughout this book. I think that See does a great job at telling stories of women's connections, and I enjoy getting to learn about historical Chinese culture through her storytelling.
