i did like this book contrary to the rating. i think it just took me so long to get through that’s why im rating it on the lower side, it truly could not grab my attention.

there were parts that made me reflect really hard which was a weird experience but an important one nonetheless. i loved Damani i thought she was a really strong FMC and her back and fourth of doing what she thought was right while she was also struggling was so honest because it’s so hard to hold so much space for emotions when you’re living paycheck to paycheck. we all want to be anti-capitalist until it’s time to pay rent.

anyway! i like the story but i wasn’t as enamored as i expected to be.

also that bar scene!!!!! i know an uncomfortable white woman when i see one!!!!! that scene was so well done fr i knew jolene was gonna call the cops from the moment they arrived at the bar. also liked that i didn’t know who Damani was gonna talk to at the end EEK! that part was great as well
