Starting this before seeing the musical and finishing it afterwards was fantastic! I loved to see the subtle differences. I prefered the first part of the musical, because some of the Raoul’s actions and remarks took me out a bit, but the the last third of the book was so much more majestic than the ending of the musical. Overall I thought this was great if taken into the account the time it was written in. The themes explored are still relevant today, it got me wondering about modern day incels online lmao.
