The Summer I Turned Pretty
by Jenny Han
emotional
hopeful
lighthearted
Every summer, Belly goes back to Cousins Beach and spends her days tangled up with the Fisher brothers, Conrad and Jeremiah. But this year, things shift—she’s not just the little girl she used to be, and love and heartbreak start to change everything.
This book hit me right in the nostalgia of my teen years, the yearning for love, the awkwardness of figuring out how to say what you feel, and the way summer always felt like it could change everything. Belly’s struggles made me think about how hard it can be to understand the world (and yourself) when you’re growing up. It’s messy, emotional, and sometimes frustrating, but that’s exactly what makes it so relatable.
