The Winner's Curse by Marie Rutkoski
5.0

This book swept me away. It was one of those reads where I felt slight despair whenever I had to put the book down. I was drawn into the story and just had to find out how everything was going to turn out. I enjoyed the political nature of the book and the fact that the story turned out differently that I imagined.
SpoilerI was picturing a slower build-up with Kestrel becoming a soldier spy.
The romance was sweet, although boy was it complicated! It almost got complicated enough for me to start wishing against it.

Despite my high rating, this wasn't a perfect book. There were some disjointed changes of POV. One paragraph in particular shifted three times. I also found the story arc skiwampus.
SpoilerThe story should have ended at the rebellion. I enjoyed the book enough to appreciate that it didn't. However, the parts after the rebellion felt like a rather long epilogue.

Overall, I was pretty much glued to this one. I can't wait until my hold for The Winner's Crime becomes available at the library!
