As an adult/ young adult fantasy series I really enjoy this series. We follow the main character, Kaylin, who lives in the capital city of Elantra. Having spent her childhood struggling to survive on the streets as an orphan, she now uses her street smarts to protect the city as a Hawk. A Hawk is similar to a detective, they right the wrongs throughout the city. But Kaylins dark and twisted past catches up with her when children are ritualistically murdered in her old haunts.

I really enjoy this book due primarily to the characters. I firmly believe good characters make or break a story. And they make it here! Along with having several different species (humans, Arians, Leontines, and Barranni to name a few) they are realistic. Kaylin is far from imperfect. She sucks at studies, she is always late, a very quick temper, and an insatiable curiosity. She is a great character! All the characters are interesting and enjoyable!

The plot was also very riveting. It kept me entertained and excited to read the next book! I really do suggest this series if you want a good fantasy series!
