The Final Chance by Cait Marie

4.0

This book follows the events of "The First Holidays", so you should read that first if you haven't already.

The thing I love most is the family and friend relationships! Beth Ann's parents are not very supportive of her career choice (fashion), but she gets support and comfort from her friend's families instead. She has great friends in Lila and Gavin (who we met in "The Last Summer"), as well as in her roommate Manny. And of course, there's Dylan... Sure, he kind of broke her heart, but she still misses him, and the friendship they had.

Beth Ann struggles with both anxiety and eating disorder. The author doesn't go into details about that, and I would have liked her to develop a bit more. Instead the focus is on how stressful everything is for Beth Ann, and it's easy to see that it will eventually have consequenses. This is my very personal opinion, others may find the balance exactly right.

There were some things that surprised me along the way, but if I mention them I probably will give away too much... Usually these YA contemporary books are quite predictable, so it was nice to be surprised - even if not everything was positive in my book!
