Much of the text was heavy-handed, but there are some good points to take from this book. There are a few studies referenced, but does not contain a lot of science. This is also a Christian book, which is not referenced at all in the synopsis -- most of the information is relevant outside of Christianity, but be aware going in that it is mentioned quite a bit. The recommended read-aloud lists are much more diverse than the main text would suggest, which was a welcome surprise. If you are interested in the Christian aspect, she recommends bibles for each age range. Skip if you're looking for a stronger science-based or secular approach, but otherwise contains good information for discussing books with your kids and how to pick good read-aloud books.
