The Blueprint by S.E. Harmon

Friends to lovers is my favorite trope.

Blue is an NFL player, attached at the hip to his childhood best friend Kelly. Kelly is a college professor, head over heels in love with his best friend Blue. Blue, is straight as an arrow, always with a hot co-ed.

Sparked by jealousy, Blue gives into feelings he’s pushed aside. He’s had feelings for Kelly, but he has plans for a wife and a family and being pro just wouldn’t be easy if he’s bi.

Kelly realizes Blue won’t reciprocate and begins separating himself. But, Blue decides he’d do anything for that not to happen. And the two become physical. Which, was kinda hot and kinda odd because Blue says if they need to be physical to stay best friends he’s willing. Obviously not what Kelly wants since he’s in love, not just in lust.

Ok so, Kelly tells Blue how he feels. And Blue tells him how he feels, with a caveat that while he’s attracted to him, nothing will happen. So essentially Blue takes Kelly for granted maybe too long. Luckily, one of Blue’s teammates clues him into reality.

And then after the big I want forever let’s go public, Kelly pretends to never having thought about publicity. So he offers to be a secret for a while. And it just kind of ends. Thankfully, a book two is out there or this ending would be way too little and really not what Kelly wants.

The guy who reads Blue was too laid back, which was slightly distracting. The guy reading Kelly was perfect.
