Trying to think of something redeeming about this book and I'm coming up empty.
Kids catch on fire. It's not explained why or how. Nothing happens to the "bad guys" such as they are; there is no comeuppance. You may not actively hate anyone, but you certainly don't like several characters. They won't face any consequences. And the kids end up with someone that cares about them, but is probably unprepared for raising them.
Being exceedingly generous, this book after several rewrites, intense revision, and a reimagining maybe could leap up to glance mediocrity. And miss.
