rage, grief and finally hope. we've all endured so much to get here. one thing i notice about hobb's endings is they're either incomplete and waiting for the hand of a sequel to finish the story for them or they end and are suffused with joy for the people of the story and quiet hope for the land and there's always this small thread of uneasiness. similar unease exists here as well. i have no reason to complain about the book quite honestly it's a good book, well-paced, and ties together all of the threads introduced into the story quite neatly. i'm sure there's something astute to say about the cycles of abuse that were broken only by death but i'm too numb to make that observation. 1.25 stars docked for the horrifically detaile scene and also for the betrayal of the best written character turning out to be a hopelessly irredeemable monster, much like the one that shadows his own heart. i hate to admit it but leaving them is worse than finishing the farseer trilogy because i have two more series full of my beloveds but what about these people i would've spat on 10 days ago? just glimpses and stolen glances i assume. farewell to everyone who stole my heart in the end, may we meet again. bingtown doesn't have to burn after all. i'll add more to this when i'm done thinking but i am hopeful i'll see the elderlings and their young charges again since there's a whole 4 books about the rain wilds.
