The Paper Kingdom by Helena Ku Rhee

3.0

I thought this story needed more fleshing out. It seemed like it could have made more of what was going on.

No one could watch the boy, so the parents who are both janitors at a high rise building downtown had to go to work on the midnight shift and they had to bring the kid with them.

Instead of finding a couch and putting him in it, they take him around and he can see the messy papery space these people work. The parents make a game out of it and it’s a Kingdom of paper with a mad paper King and a Queen and they have messy dragons that work for them. They tell the kid to be the King of the Kingdom some day.

It’s a nice enough story, but it didn’t seem to connect dots and to really work. There seems that something else could be there.

The nephew enjoyed the dragons, even if it was in the boys imagination. Mostly, he thought this was boring and he was sad that the kid had to go to work with his parents. He gave this 2 stars.
