I will be writing a review of this whole series (for a class) in a couple of days and will likely update this review when I do.
For now, it is enough to say that I wish I could rate this series higher than 5 stars.
This last book is different from the previous books in that there is one human character, but she's only had one brief scene in one chapter and doesn't have a POV. This book focuses among a group of aliens, each of a different species, and how they learn to appreciate one another after being stranded planetside together.
Chambers manages with a great deal of care to consider how biological differences shape culture and language. She focuses on commonalities and differences. She shows how to take the small actions that might, eventually, lead to big changes (or perhaps they won't. No one ever really knows how their actions will shape the future, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't make the attempt).
I really love this series. I hope to reread it soon.
