Gemina by Jay Kristoff, Amie Kaufman

5.0

The second installment in The Illuminae Files is still fantastic! In fact, I might have liked it even more than the first! But one of my favorite features of this book was the illustrations by Marie Lu. I loved the inclusion of Hanna's journal. I believe having such a personal document, plus her entries depicting her views on certain events and people was one of the reasons why I enjoyed the characters so much more in this book.

Gemina was even more of a page-turner for me than the first. There were a lot of questions planted at the beginning that I just wanted answers for. Example:
SpoilerWhy were there bullet holes in Hanna's journal? As the blood stains grew larger I knew I was getting closer to the answer.
I also really loved how this book ties into events from the first. I chose not to read the synopsis going in, so I had no idea how it was going to work, but now I can really feel it all coming together and I'm excited to see how the trilogy wraps up!

Again, I'll have to give this series a reread with the audiobook at some point because I heard that's the way to go, despite the visual nature of these books. But this was probably my favorite so far, I've gotten very attached to these characters and am looking forward to the finale. That I may have already started. Even though I just finished this one.
