Kingdom of Exiles

4/5
This is grown up Pokémon meets Assassins. I was hooked right away and read it all in one night. The plot is fast pace, the love interest is a broody, dark haired, cursed assassin. Who wouldn't want those two things? The heroine does the majority of the work throughout the book which I prefer. I hate when heroine are described as strong or brave but are saved constantly. The only thing keeping this book from 5 stars for me is the ending. I felt it was a bit of a rush, and it was almost given away who the "hidden" bad guy is for the following books. I understand the need for a second book with the way the book ended, however I think it could have been set up to be a standalone better. The later book is changed to YA- I disagree with this change. I think having it as adult allowed for more, and fit the tone of the first book perfectly.
