I've read a handful of books about meditation, mindfulness, and minimalism/intentional living over the last few years, so it's no big surprise I was drawn to this book while wandering a bookstore. It's a small, handsome looking volume, and the back reveals that it's not only about silence, it's written by a guy who was the first person on the planet to travel to the South Pole alone. This guy has to have some interesting insight into calming the mind and embracing silence, right?

My take is that he does... mostly. The writing is occasionally meandering - Kagge sometimes feels like he just doesn't have that much of a point. Other times, though, I found it compelling, relatable, and moving.

I do wish he would have written more about his trip to the South Pole and his experience of silence there, he just didn't focus on it much.
