Still by Kennedy Ryan

5.0

" "Hope" is the thing with feathers -
that perches in the soul -
And sings the tune without the words -
And never stops - at all - "

Although this excerpt is from Emily Dickinson, it depicts Still so well. My hope is for the world to stop seeing in color, and to see what is within.

In Still, we get to visit again with Bristol and Grip. They are fighting the odds in an interracial relationship. Although there are points to each upbringing the other does not fully understand, they will not stop fighting for each other.

Kennedy explores the very real, still occurring, racial bias. Bristol and Grip may not see in color, but that does not step their friends, and even family, from expressing their displeasure at their relationship.

Grip has an opportunity to study under an author whose book changed his life. When the author befriends Grip, will Grip be disappointed in his true colors?

Grip and Bristol are hit with the biggest test of all time. Will this be the one thing that tears them apart? Or will they continue to fight for their relationship?

This book hit me like no other book ever has. It's unimaginable that today, in 2017, people are still fighting these issues. But they are, and if anything people are even more vocal in their displeasure than they were in the past. Social media, media in general, allows this ugliness to show it's form daily. Kennedy explores both sides of the racial bias' and this book is so important. I truly hope it gets sent to major book retailers.
