I asked and you answered - for my final Eurovision choice this year I needed a book with a bird on the cover and of the options available this was overwhelming the most recommended. Friends, you did not disappoint.

You know how some books feel like a warm hug or a mug of hot chocolate  - well this feels like lounging on a sunny patio with a cold glass of white wine, possibly even like dancing. Plot light but the vibes are strong, compelling emotional arcs, chosen family and characters to fall in love with (Peg! Cress! Kid!) as they play out their various methods of post war recovery from the 1940s in to the 70s. It's lemon scented, sun drenched Italian gorgeousness and it's an absolute delight.

The last section lost me a bit, not having read Room with a View it felt a bit like an in joke that I didn't understand (the same reason I haven't read James or Demon Copperhead). It was still nice and gave a bit of closure but honestly I reckon the book could have ended 30 pages earlier and I'd have been just as happy.
