The Winter King
by Bernard Cornwell
I really quite enjoyed reading this. I found it because I was in a mood to read a book on King Arthur and since this one had so many positive reviews, figured it was worth a shot. It was definitely worth it. It's a bit slow going at first, but when it picks up, you find yourself absolutely enthralled. The political intrigue was interesting and the battle scenes were really well written. The author does a fabulous job of setting the scene and putting the reader right in the middle of it. I also thought the characters were some of the best I had been introduced to in some time - they are flawed and complex and their growth throughout the story is a great journey. I'm actually rather attached to some of the characters now and can't wait to see what happens next. Will definitely be reading the next books in the trilogy.
