Chain-Gang All-Stars by Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah

5.0

When this audiobook ended with, "we hope you enjoyed this program," I could do nothing but scream through tears, "ENJOYED?!"

Because I didn't enjoy this book. This book is harrowing, and made all the more so by the factual footnotes strewn about to bolster the "world building" that initially feels outlandish and impossible.

Still, this novel is incredible, I was unable to put it down (which is horrific in its own way while reading this book, and truly feels terrible) and yet this is absolutely a must read for anyone living in the United States. I could not recommend it enough.
