Incredibly vivid and imaginative but not necessarily scary and in fact is a bit silly when you think about it. There are these great old ones who seem like monstrous starfish type creatures from space who are animal and vegetable, and they built a giant elaborate city where they carved art and made statues about their entire history including weather updates and the time their slave species rose up against them and were fought back into subjugation and of course Lovecraft being Lovecraft he is clearly on the side of the wise heroic slavers not the enslaved race who are truly monstrous. Oh and multiple penguin based jump scares.
