The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck
4.5

a very beautifully written book, it really felt like a great american saga, gruelling and heart wrenching.

i could almost feel the heat and dirt through the pages, sunburn peeling and sleepless nights of worry but never losing hope.

i very much preferred the smaller chapters in between the main narrative story, the vignettes of the scene that either offered a wider context or a peek into a mundane interaction. those were the chapters that really spoke to me and really made me love steinbeck’s writing.

i really loved how strong minded Ma was, she really held her own and commanded such a strength that surprised me given how male-centric this book is.

(have to say though, the name rose of sharon is so stupid, made me mad each time i read it)
