Cooper Callahan is a college hockey player headed for the NHL, but lately his game has been rusty. The culprit: a dry spell. Meanwhile, his coach’s daughter, Penny Ryder is learning to trust again after a toxic relationship with the use of a sex bucket list. When the two meet at a volunteer job, what begins is a convenient arrangement. Most importantly, they have to keep this secret because both have so much to lose. But what happens when feelings work their way in?
TW: mentions of anxiety, panic disorder, sexual exploitation (not within the main couple)
I think the spice and sex scenes were a bit overdone, to the point that there was less focus on the plot. At least in the first half.
By the time their relationship was evolving into something more than just lust and smut, there was more substance to the characters and the story. I may even like Cooper and Penny’s romance a tiny bit more than James and Bex’s. Just a tiny bit, because I love those two together as well.
And the third act? Wow. I’m not going to get too specific, but I actually felt my chest twinge.
I’m looking forward to reading Sebastian and Mia’s book next! The previews of them together that I got in this book were delightful.
