Dragons and shifters and fae oh my!
This was beyond wonderful. I have never read anything by Emma L Adams before but I have to say she is very quickly (after just this one book) making her way up the list of my favorite authors. After this review I shall go off and buy and read everything else she has ever written.
Ember is easily one of my favorite female leads ever. Her devotion, love and care for her sister grabs right a hold of your heart from the start. She is a low profile, no kill but do what we must to survive person. Her hold on her temper is amazing considering shes a dragon. But when something happens to her sister she would move heaven, earth and hell to save her. i can relate because i feel the same. i have a little sister that i also would burn the world for (not as young and shes old enough to take care of herself but still). Ember is how I imagine all good big sisters to be. At least if they shapeshifted into a creature with scaly armor and fire breathing ;)
our ex-hunter friend(ish). i still cannot tell what he thinks or feels about anyone else. i have an inclination but refuse to say it in case i am wrong (no one can say i am wrong if i don't say what the inclination is before hand wahahahaha). i do feel bad for him. family killed by shapeshifters only to find yourself having to help them. its a tough spot especially with all the prejudice he grows up having and all the propaganda he is exposed to as a child. i do look forward to more from him.
Will the half witch/half gargoyle (best and most hilarious combo in the world i assure you). is silly, flirty, and a bit of a trickster. One of Embers other companions is a half blind cat shapeshifter....ya you read that right lol. Becks is not only half blind but I just couldn't stop laughing at her very sarcastic glass half full personality. not to mention whenever it talks about her fighting it makes me think about a house cat on crack. lots of fun there. :)
the plot made for an amazing read because it was topics you had heard before but different twists making it comfortable and exciting. Fae invasion, battle for supremacy, humans using corrupt methods to come out on top, deeper wars that no one knows about taking place. and somehow the rare and highly coveted dragons fit in.... (and no sorry i will not tell you the twists. you want to know read the book!)
