Nothing Can Possibly Go Wrong
by Prudence Shen
This a fun and solid YA graphic novel. It's centers of the simple issue of family and friends with a reasonable goal. Charlie's ex-girlfriend is a cheerleader, and his best friend is a socially awkward, robot-loving weirdo. When the student council money is neither allotted to the cheerleader nor the science club, both groups put up a candidate for Student Council president. There's a funny bit in the book about dirty campaigning, but then both groups have to join forces. In the background is the real issue of Charlie's family.
It's a fun book, and Faith Erin Hicks's art makes it worth reading even if you're not found of young adult books. If you want to read some YA that isn't sci-fi, fantasy, or romance centered, this is a good choice and a reminder that there are YA books about ordinary life that don't focus on a heavy social issue.
