Facing West by Lucy Lennox
3.0
Another book that I couldn't read but which was okay as an audiobook. I liked Lucy Lennox's "Made Marian" series, despite its flaws, and to be fair, this continues in much the same vein.
This book has likable characters and a great supporting cast, but practically no connection to reality as well as way too much drama. It's also at least fifty pages too long - so much of it feels really drawn out without proper payoff (partly, it seems, to include more mediocre sex scenes), and some plotlines just feel like afterthoughts (the one about the cheating couple). Also, the thing about books with babies is that it's rare that the baby is actually part of the story - here, apart from a few rare moments the baby is just a thing that has to be taken care of rather than an actual character.
I didn't hate it and it isn't bad, but I feel like with better editing Lucy Lennox's books could be a lot better. I love the humour between family members in her stories, and her main characters tend to have chemistry. But so many things made me roll my eyes I cannot give this more than three stars, and in a way I feel like even that is too generous.
