Beverly Jenkins is always gonna teach you and give you a pining ass hero and I eat it up every time.

Hester is a formerly enslaved woman working to help liberate others in Michigan when she meets Galen, a notorious member of the cause. There’s a little mystery, some backstabbing, petty haters, and plenty of romance.

I really loved watching these two get together, this is probably my favorite Jenkins couple, but I do think the book slowed down significantly in that last 20% or so. Sometimes it’s hard to maintain momentum once the happily every after is introduced and in this case the number of bows tied was a bit rushed, especially in the case of Hester’s family. That aside, a must read for romance fans.
