I was confused at how this was marketed (as a fake dating trope) but satisfied at the hint of real-life inspiration (i.e. Mariah Carey & Derek Jeter) with a modern take. Ella’s interactions with her tight-knit glam squad and petty ex drew me in, but her chemistry with Miles

and their emotionally vulnerable voice notes

sent this into the stratosphere for me. The background elements kept my attention too. Some of these performances I wanted to hear in real life, and I wouldn’t mind a spin-off with Jamie. I can’t rave about this book enough.
