The Sun and Her Flowers by Rupi Kaur

3.0

“why is it
that when the story ends
we begin to feel all of it”

Split into five chapters, which is wilting, falling, rooting, rising and blooming, The Sun and Her Flowers is a collection of poetry about gried, self-abandonement, honouring one’s roots, love, and empowering oneself.

This is Rupi Kaur’s second poetry book the I’ve read, and apparently, I am having a love and hate relationship with her books. I love the majority of the poems she wrote, but not the ones about sexual intercourse and masturbation. It is not something that I am looking for in poetry books. But I really love how true her words are in the last chapter, blooming, where she mainly talks about her roots, life choices, embracing her cultures, and self-love. I can see why Indian in the bookish community look up to her-her words are relatable and empowering.

“yes
it is possible
to hate and love someone
at the same time
i do it to myself
every day”
