The writing here is excellent. A gothic atmosphere to a remote and isolated-feeling village in the Scottish Highlands. There just wasn't a whole lot going on. Not that I wanted non-stop action and twists, but the arguably main event on the book's blurb don't occur until 2/3s of the way in. The writing, descriptions, characters and their lives/events kept me engaged but it overall wasn't quite what I expected, which left me with a mixed taste in my mouth
