Paper Son: The Inspiring Story of Tyrus Wong, Immigrant and Artist by Julie Leung

5.0

'Paper Son: The Inspiring Story of Tyrus Wong, Immigrant and Artist' by Julie Leung with art by Chris Sasaki is a picture book biography of animator Tyrus Wong.

When Tyrus Wong came to this country, he had to pretend to be someone else. He spent time on his trip learning details of the boy he was supposed to be in order to be allowed to emigrate. Life in his new country wasn't easy, but he had an affinity for art. This led him to work for Walt Disney and the unique style used for the movie Bambi.

It's a complex story, but adapted well for young readers. The art is by Pixar artist Chris Sasaki and it's really wonderful. This is a great biography and tribute to Tyrus Wong, who continues to inspire new generations.
