Rache schmeckt süß 2
by Natsumi Andō, Natsumi Andō
fast-paced
the second volume still has me mumbling "what the fuck" as I turn the pages.
Nao had truly no idea in what kind of family she married into.
The MIL Kyoko immediately confesses to her sabotage and wants to throw Nao out right away. Tsubaki does stand up against his mom for his wife but does not seem very happy about the entire situation.
Nao is also bonding with the trainee, Jojima, and you could tell from a mile away that her new husband would be jealous about it.
To fix the mess up in the previous volume, Nao gets to redo an order (which was instigated by the stranger who gave Nao the letter in vol. 1) and Tsubaki teaches her for a while as well. That causes tension in the kitchen with the head chef - who is having some kind of affair with Kyoko? When I tell you I gasped.
I gasped even louder when Tsubaki's grandfather expanded on his reason why Tsubaki would not inherit: because he is a bastard. (Kyoko seems to refute that assertion but no one considered making a DNA test? You can find out more blood relatives than just the father but they really like being miserable aparently.)
Anyway, Tsubaki concocts a plan to trick chef Tomioka into giving back space in the kitchen and the resulting waffles are an absolute success. In fact, the customer says the remind of the times when Nao's mother still worked there, the time when the confectionary still had its charm. It also gives us our first (?) sweet moment between Nao and Tsubaki, holding hands and discussing a future together.
and before we think it gets too easy, we get a very tense family dinner where the grandfather accuses Nao she's lying about being in love with Tsubaki (which, honestly, is true at this point? She might have liked the boy but her reasons for being here now and much more murder- than romance-related). It does, however end up with them finally sharing a room and sleeping together.
The only thing I don't understand is that Tsubaki says he would not allow "Sakura" ever back into his house - but didn't he already call out Nao for being the Sakura from his childhood in Vol 1?
