Looking at the hype that this book had, I thought it would portray some alternate reality with blacks as suprematists. But what I got was a Romeo-Juliet style book with so much racism that it was hard to read. There is a lot of violence too if you are into such stuff. This person gets killed, that person commits suicide, this person is murdered. I just don't like such stories so this book wasn't for me. What I was looking for was a discussion about why racism is bad or why the society became like this. There is absolutely no world building or history whatsoever. Instead of reading about white oppressors, you are reading about black oppressors. How is that any different? Does it matter who oppresses whom, as long as there are people who are oppressed? So yeah, not my cup of tea.
