The Evening and the Morning by Ken Follett

5.0

Pillars of the Earth is still one of my top favorite reads. This prequel does not disappoint in the world of Kingsbridge. These are long reads but always worth it. Follett includes several character narratives throughout the book, varying the perspective of this time of the middle ages. There is not an overarching story except that this is the progression of the development of a town and the hierarchy of the people in it. Just the same, it is a great read and continually pulled me in to the very last page.
