This one was fine. I feel like I went in with the right expectations after some of my friends did love it as much as they thought they would. I feel like it's a solid three-star book taking into account that it was written with younger readers in mind. I think this would be a good one for young teens exploring the realm of fantasy and the island setting is more unique than some other settings. This did not impact my review at all but something to note is, at least in my copy, the words are massiveeee. It makes the book seem a lot longer than it actually is and therefore I did feel like the world-building was lacking quite severely. The author had some really cool elements within but I would've liked to see them explored more. The characterization in this one was also lacking in my opinion. I felt no connection to these human characters whatsoever. I cared a lot more for the nonhumans within. I would only recommend this one to very young readers looking for a standalone fantasy.
