September by Rosamunde Pilcher
4.0
This was the perfect novel to start off my fall reading season. In true Rosamunde Pilcher style, it was a sweeping family story with rich descriptions of the Scottish village and deep dives into all of the main characters’ lives. At 613 pages, I intended to read this as a “slow but steady” read over the next few months, but once I got to know the characters, I couldn’t put it down. Not much actually happens in the plot. The book begins in May with the planning of a village dance which will take place in September. We follow the characters through the months leading up to the big celebration. It’s beautifully written, but there are a few content warnings – body-shaming, ageism, sexism, plenty of alcohol use, and suicide. Despite all this, I recommend this one.
