The Tenant of Wildfell Hall
by Anne Brontë
Anne Bronte's second novel is the story of a young woman who married unwisely, and was trapped by the laws of her time in a union that was unhealthy and demoralizing. The struggles of her heroine are written so vividly that some scenes were painful for me to read. I can't help admiring Anne Bronte for writing so boldly of an issue that fiction of her day preferred to gloss over or ignore altogether.
