Vampire Academy
by Richelle Mead
adventurous
challenging
🩸 “Juliet had it easy; she never had to kill Romeo.”
🩸 Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead was a book and series which I was obsessed with at one point of time!
🩸 This book is a contemporary YA fantasy thriller set in a school for Vampires called St. Vladimir’s Academy. The book has a fresh take on the Vampire world where Vampires are the heroes, the protectors and also the villains.
🩸 There are three kinds of Vampires - the Royal Moroi, the undead Strigoi and the half-human-half-vampire Dhampirs. Moroi are the royals who are Vampires by birth and are of the benevolent kind. Dhampirs are the protectors of the Moroi who safeguard them from the evil blood-thirsty Strigoi.
🩸 But the Strigoi aren’t the only villains in this book. There are some elements of politics involved which was really intriguing. The protagonist of the story is Rosemary Hathaway (aka Rose) who is a Dhampir, protector and best friend of the only living member of one of the highest Royal Houses, Vasilisa Dragomir (aka Lissa). The dynamic between Rose and Lissa was so good! They’re literally Soul Sisters. Rose can hear and feel Lissa’s thoughts and emotions even when she isn’t around (we learn the reason behind it later in the story). I love the forbidden yet irrevocable romance between Rose and Dimitri as well.
🩸 I think Dimitri is my favourite character from the series, btw. Apart from its stunning characters, the plotline of the book was incredible! There’s some amazing high school drama and shocking plot twists. The finalé reveal left me awestruck because I wasn’t expecting *spoiler* to be the bad guy whatsoever!
🩸 Enough ranting. I feel this series is highly underrated and I don’t know why some people hate it 🤷🏻♂️. I highly recommend it to all fantasy lovers and especially high-schoolers. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
