In this installment in the Alex Rider series, Alex is "borrowed" by the CIA. He goes to Skeleton Key with two CIA agents who never make it back. Alex is then held prisoner by the General who reveals that he would love to adopt Alex. The General Sarov had a son who was killed in the war and he sees Alex as a replacement, though Alex has no interest. Alex will stop at nothing to rid himself of the General and stop the nuclear reaction the General is hoping to create.
