The Daughter of Time by Josephine Tey

Brilliant. Weird and clever and completely unexpected. I really enjoyed all the bits of research and reading of primary sources-- definitely reminds you how hard it could be to get your hands on the material you needed before the internet. There's plenty of Tey's weird quirks here-- she's a snob, she's really anti-Scotland, and she has the strange opinion that you can conclusively say things about a person just from a picture of their face, but the book is still very good. Well worth the read for any classic mystery fan.
