Song of Susannah by Stephen King
4.0

This, especially compared to the others, is a really short read and feels very much like a middle book. It’s purpose is to connect what happened in Wolves of the Calla to The Dark Tower, but it does stand on it’s own better than many middle books. It flows really well and I was never bored.

But I have thoughts on a certain matter. Spoilers ahead, but if you read the last book you could probably predict this.

Stephen King writing himself into the story, in theory, irritates me. It just seems incredibly narcissistic. However, I can appreciate why he did it for the grand scheme of the story. From The Gunslinger on, Mid-World has seemed like a dumping ground from all the other worlds. Little things like Hey Jude, Jesus, and Lightsabers just found their way into it. It makes sense that stuff from Mid-World leaks into the “real world.” King is the portal.

Especially after reading the “journal” entires at the end, I literally have no idea what’s going to happen.
