Silver Girl
by Elin Hilderbrand
This started out as a guilty pleasure book, but it had more substance than I anticipated. It takes place on Nantucket, thus the cover, but it is a story of two women in mid-life who are going through some hard family times. One woman, Meredith, is running away from notoriety, as her husband has been recently arrested for a giant Ponzi scheme. (I have read two books this summer about women married to Wall Street financiers who majorly defrauded their clients!) Hilderbrand made me actually care about these wealthy women who shop name brands. Although there is romance in the story, it is not the focus. The focus is the two women and the ups and downs of their friendship - a long one that has lasted most of their lives. The only thing i thought was questionable was
The book was like a less melodramatic, more believable Jodi Picoult book.

Meredith's romance with Toby at the very end. I thought they had a lot to work through, and the text didn't really indicate that they had done that. Also, there wasn't enough confirmation that Toby's irresponsibilities had been completely worked out. Even in the middle of the book he was kind of ignoring his kid.The book was like a less melodramatic, more believable Jodi Picoult book.
