Why Not Me?
by Mindy Kaling
While I'm pretty sure Mindy Kaling's sense of humor and mine aren't exactly sympatico (she freely admits that while she envies a dry sense of humor it's just not her style) this book is still very, very readable. It's exuberant and it's fun, though it never made me laugh out loud and a few times I did tilt my head like "Mindy, wtf are you saying, you're trying way too hard." (Then again, my husband often pats me on the arm after I make a joke and is like "It's okay babe, you can't be funny every time," so who am I to judge?)
It's not high literature, but it doesn't mean to be. It's just one woman's quirky recap of various experiences she's had in her life, and the anthology format makes it a good beach read or great as something to flip through when you have five minutes to kill at the doctor's office or while waiting for the bus.
