The Importance of Book Cover Design and Formatting: For self-published authors by J.D. Smith

4.0

The book had a lot of good tips about cover design and formatting. The title is quite accurate in that it is not a guide in how to make a cover yourself, but rather an insight for authors into the process of cover creation and the elements to concentrate on when review books covers that have been designed for your approval. The main message seems to be that both cover design and formatting are best left to professionals, although some elements of formatting are mentioned in case one wished to do it alone.
I could not give the book the full complement of stars because part of it seems to be just an advert for the author's own services. The "case studies" at the end are in fact testimonials from her satisfied customers, which, while surely showing Jane to be a competent designer, did not add any new information to the book and would probably have been better off kept on her website.
