There was just something not right with this book, can’t put my finger on it. Well written, unique storyline with new magical abilities etc. I found the world building lacking and confusing, no idea what timeline this is meant to be set in, so as a visual reader I struggled imagining this place and the people. The beginning felt rushed, and proper development of characters was not there, so I didn’t have any connection to any of the characters. And the characters personalities that were depicted in the beginning seem to flip later on in the book. This book didn’t capture me at all, I found it a chore to read. Yes there is a cliff hanger and a second book. I have no interest in reading the second book, and have no care for whatever happens to the characters.
